The question of how to group students in schools is very important. Some people think students should study with others at the same level, but others say mixing different levels is better. I will discuss both ideas and give my opinion.

Studying with same-level students has some good points. Teachers can give lessons that match students’ abilities. Fast learners won’t get bored, and slow learners won’t feel bad about falling behind. For example, in my country, some schools separate students in maths classes, and many students feel more comfortable this way.

Standardized testing: effective or not? shows that mixed groups can also work well. When different level students study together, weaker students can learn from better ones. Also, smart students learn to help others, which is a good skill. Mixed groups help students make more friends and learn to work with different people.

I think mixed groups are better because they help all students develop important social skills. Also, separating students can make some feel less confident. In my experience as a student, I learned more in mixed classes because I could help others and get help when needed.
